In relation to mental health, Kenya is characterized by the following
• A significant treatment gap in spite of similar patterns of mental disorders as found in high income countries.
• Poor/limited allocation of financial resources for mental health by the government and the donor community.
• Lack of an operational mental health policy, still in draft form (with inputs from Africa Mental Health Foundation).
