Prof David M Ndetei
Founding DirectorDavid M. Ndetei did his undergraduate Medical Training in Kenya and post-graduate training in Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, University of London and the Royal College of Psychiatrists UK who awarded him Membership and later Fellowship, amongst other qualifications. On return to Kenya he did his Doctorate in Psychiatry at the University of Nairobi. He is Full Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Nairobi, a position he has held since 1995.
He has held various administrative positions at the University of Nairobi including being the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and a member of the University Senate between 1988 and 2000. He has published more than 202 papers and chapters in different peer Journals. He has completed compiling his thesis for Higher Doctorate (DSc.) from the University of Nairobi, the first ever such degree by University of Nairobi alumni. Professor Ndetei is the Vice Chair of the Africa Division of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK); Secretary to the World Psychiatric Association, Division of Psychiatry in Developing countries, in addition to the honorary positions in Global mental health movements. In 2012, he was honoured by the Kenya Psychiatric Association (KPA) for outstanding contribution and leadership in Psychiatry.
Dr Victoria Mutiso
Director - Research, Administration and FinanceDr. Victoria Mutiso is a Clinical Psychologist and a Research Fellow at the Africa Mental Health Foundation (AMHF). She holds a PhD and Masters in Clinical Psychology from the University of Nairobi. She is in charge of research and also an administrative position at the Foundation.
She is the country Co-PI in a Grand Challenges Canada-funded project on innovative approaches to improving mental health diagnosis and care in developing countries. She has a strong interest in mental health-related research and emerging trends. She is a co-author in a manual on psycho-trauma, has contributed book chapters and also published several articles in peer-reviewed journals. She has been in charge of various projects that AMHF has undertaken for the past 5 years.
Dr Abednego Musau
ResearcherAbednego Musau holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Degree (M.B.Ch.B) from Moi University. He is currently at an advanced stage of obtaining a Master’s degree In Public Health (Epidemiology and Disease Control) under the Moi University - AMREF collaboration. In addition, he is a certified peer educator and counsellor and also a trainer of trainers (TOT) on several health topics. He has a strong research background and joining AMHF is to pursue his dream of becoming a career researcher. He is trained in dealing with communities under the Community Based Education and Services (COBES). He is also a member of the Kenya Medical Association and Christian Medical Association Kenya.
Catherine Maghanga
Finance and Administration OfficerCatherine N. Maghanga is a continuing student at Strathmore University for her Bachelor of Commerce. She holds a Diploma in Business Information Technology in addition to a Kenya Accounting Technician Certificate course (KASNEB) from Strathmore University Distance Learning Center. Having attended various seminars in relation to team building and customer care, Catherine has a passion for team work and a strong belief that a customer is not only from the outside but also within the office. In her words, “Research is about continuous learning and consultation, an aspect I appreciate most in the environment at Africa Mental Health Foundation”.
Daniel Kyalo
Projects OfficerDaniel Kyalo holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Development Studies from Mount Kenya University, and a diploma in community development and project planning and management from Premise Africa Development Institute. He has wide experience in counseling and community development having worked in this area since 2006. He strongly believes service to humanity is service to God.

Research and Ethics OfficerChristine Musyimi, a BSc Nurse, is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Medical Statistics at the University of Nairobi Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases. Christine is committed to providing dynamic and compelling solutions to matters relating to ethics in research projects at the Africa Mental Health Foundation by ensuring data quality control measures and ethical principles are adhered to.
Rhodah Mwangi
Communications OfficerRhodah Mwangi holds a Bachelors degree in Social Communication from Tangaza College – The Catholic University of Eastern Africa. She is passionate about finding innovative ways to reach people with valuable information, capable of transforming their lives by empowering them to make informed choices and access available resources. She focuses on ensuring information is available, accessible and in a format easily grasped by the intended audience.
Grace Mutevu
Executive Assistant to the DirectorGrace Mutevu has worked with Africa Mental Health Foundation since 2001. Grace is a qualified secretary, having obtained her certificate from St. Johns Training Institute. She is involved in various administrative duties and plays a key role in the smooth running of the office.
